BEHIND THE TRACK
IRIS came together differently from the rest of the album. Throughout the recording sessions, unused riffs, MIDI arrangements and fragments of ideas had accumulated in Logic. At one point, several of those tracks were layered together and unexpectedly began to work as a new piece.
Rather than building the song around a single riff, Manz and Rob Z shaped it from elements that had been left behind throughout the album, turning IRIS into a reflection of the record itself.
The drums remained entirely MIDI, while the ending brings back the same trumpet sounds heard in Space Lives Matter, closing the album by returning to an earlier part of its journey.
